REVIEW: Mumford & Sons new album, released this week
The playlist at knomo HQ is often a hot topic of debate provoking Britney vs La Gaga, Manu Chao vs Madonna and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs the Tings Tings. Thankfully a v. clever member of the team brought in some new music to keep us quiet for a while, from new band Mumford & Sons. Sigh No More is the debut album and they are fast-becoming one of the hottest names around. Infusing a folksy feel into ballads, electronica and indie styles, to name a few, this easy-listening album is a journey through genres and should offer something for everyone.
The band – made up by Marcus Mumford, Winston Marshall, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane – formed in 2007 and rose in popularity amongst the London folk scene with the others including Laura Marling and Noah and the Whale. With many songs following a jaunty beat and fast paced rhythm it’s easy to let the song slip by as an upbeat affair, but listen more closely and the lyrics tell a different story.

We really like White Blank Page for its catchy melody, but Little Lion song is really cool too, albeit with rather gloomy lyrics. With M&S having been described by the Independent as comparable to the best of the Laurel Canyon scene in the 60’s and acheiveing 4 out of 5 stars from the Guardian and the BBC, they are definitely a band to watch.
