Marvin Sordell is one of the 18 men chosen by Stuart Pearce to play for the London Olympic Team. His personality off the pitch shows that he is a very chilled-out guy but one who genuinely loves his profession. Sordell manages to stay out the limelight when not playing football, preferring to catch up with family and friends. From a very young age Sordell has had a great passion for football, and playing for his country being the highest honour. Here’s his journey to the Olympics…

“I was born in the London suburb of Harrow, West London. From an early age I aspired to a career in football, starting out playing Under 8’s football and then joined Fulham under 14’s. Unfortunately I wasn’t offered a scholarship but after impressing scouts at an exit trial I  became a scholar at Watford FC and signed a professional contract with the team in April 2009. I played many games with Watford FC til January 2010 when I was loaned out to Tramere Rovers on a two month-long contract in order to gain some 1^st-team experience. On 31^st January 2012 I signed with Premier League club Bolton Wanderers on a three-and-a-half year contract while playing for England under 21’s where I made my first international debut by scoring for England under-21’s in a 5-0 victory over Iceland in November 2011. I carried on playing with Bolton FC until 2^nd July 2012, when I was named to be in Stuart Pearce’s 18-man squad for the 2012 London Olympics. I really didn’t expect it, I was quite shocked when I got the call. At first I didn’t think it was him on the phone, as you do.

I made my Olympic debut in a friendly against Brazil last Friday 20th July 2012. I’m really grateful for this opportunity and cannot wait to start playing for my country!”

We can’t wait to see him represent his country in the London Olympics, either!
