Go out for a drink and give something back…

London for London

A typical Saturday night for us Londoner’s usually involves going to one (or more!) of the many bars and clubs our great city has to offer, knocking back some bevvies, a bit of hot-shoe-shuffling and a kebab to keep us warm on the bus ride home. Not this weekend! London For London, a charity set up by Laura Fraser and Ryan Kohn aims to give Londoners the opportunity to give something back to the community. This Saturday (3rd October), the city’s bars, pubs and clubs will be asking everyone who walks through their doors to donate £1, with all the proceeds divided between three charities (Kids Company, Volunteer Police Cadets and 95.8 Capital FM’s Help a London Child) which address violence amongst the capital’s youth.

Iconic freesheet ‘The London Paper’ Closes

London Paper is no more

Well its finally happened…one of our favourite titles, The London Paper, has finally closed due to lack in profits, even though it was the highest circulating evening newspaper, and was much-loved by Londoners and tourists alike. To some it may not seem significant, but much like the ‘Golf Sale’ signs of old, the launch of the London Paper back in 2006 changed the London landscape and, equally gave us something new to moan about when you couldnt walk 10 feet without having a paper thrust at you… Read more

The fabric of (London) life…

Tokyo_brown_on_seat

For all you budding textile designers out there, we have exciting news: TFL (or ‘Transport for London’, for the uninitiated) are holding a competition to design a new ‘moquette’ or seat cover design for the next generation of London tube trains.

The design brief, which is exactly the same as it was in 1930, emphasises that the design’s colours should respond well to both natural and artificial light, with a pattern which takes account of wear and tear. The winning design will launch on the Piccadilly line in 2012 and will then be adopted across the London Underground system.

Get your colouring pencils and felt tips out asap as the competition deadline is 5pm Monday 14 September 2009. Participants must be 18 years or over, and to download the brief and all terms and conditions, see http://shop.tfl.gov.uk/moquette-competition.html

You never know, it may end up in one of knomo’s future campaigns!
