Last Thursday, knomo were proud to be involved in the PASSPORT TO STYLE event with womenswear brand Eileen Fisher.  The evening was hosted by journalist & travel connoisseur Kate McAuley who shared her packing tips – with her Marseille trolley!

Anyone on Twitter and Instagram could keep up with the action using #EFTravelStyle – there was plenty of bubbly & sushi to enjoy! We offered a Verona trolley as a prize in the raffle…

And the lucky winner – who coincidentally was dressed in the same Terracotta colour as her new travel toy – was ecstatic!

Many would know Ortis Deley from his days presenting children’s TV shows Live & Kicking and CBBC, others would know him better as Radio DJ of Choice FM and BBC Radio 5 Live.  We know him best as fellow technology lover, and presenter of The Gadget Show!

Ortis carries a knomo himself, for toting his gadgets and other daily essentials.  As a knomo fan, he was kind enough to come along to our Pop-up Shop Launch Party to officially cut the ribbon and open our store – and he bagged the special lady in his life a knomo Florence weekender too!

Red Nose Day is such a great cause, and we wanted to get involved and do our bit – whilst having some fun along the way!

Our Office Manager and general tidy-up Queen has been going blue in the face trying to organise everyone to clean up after themselves in the staff kitchen – yes, with so many of us using it for coffee rounds & warming lunches, it does get a little messy in there!

So the Social Media and Pop-up shop team – who are bringing you this week’s knomo Comic Relief entertainment – decided to step in.  Introducing the “Messy Kitchen Penalty Jar”…

Without the use of culinary CCTV, we’re relying purely on the honesty and conscience of the knomo team to add some change to the jar whenever a mucky crime is committed.  We found evidence of our first offence yesterday and dealt with it accordingly…

We’ll keep you posted on this, and much more – we’ll be taking pictures throughout Red Nose Day for your viewing!

knomo was born in London, and our HQ and Shop are still situated in the heart of the Capital.  But our three founders, who gave up their day jobs to create and design bags that enhanced the lives of others, hail from South Africa. We are therefore very excited to be partnering with Core (our South African distributor), and iSchool Africa to sponsor iPads in an underprivileged school in Gauteng.

Veluka school is based in Randburg.  With the classrooms initially designed for Sunday school lessons, resources are very limited.  Seeing and experiencing the educational crisis in South Africa, a group of very inspiring individuals decided to step up and make a difference; using the venue as an open full-time school for the children of local townships and orphanages, now with a total of 70 students. Veluka focuses on teaching key skills such as Maths, Reading and Writing – helping special needs children in particular, and with the aim of entering them into a trade college and eventually to enter into society.

This is where the iPad’s come in!  With Textbooks in very short supply, this new technology is proving to be a real game changer, helping the children to engage independently in their learning.  As well as building confidence, specially created numeracy and literacy Apps mean that the quality of learning has improved dramatically.

knomo has also provided Folio cases to protect the iPads, and ensure that they can be used for many years to come. We will also starting to work with other education charities in South Africa.

To celebrate the grand opening of our POP-UP SHOP we hosted an Official Launch Party in our London HQ and brand new retail space.  With a host of guests, including some of our celebrity fans, journalists, knomo friends & customers alike!
For this celebration we were joined by Ortis Deley, the inimitable host of The Gadget Show, who kicked of proceedings alongside Hettie Moore, from Made in Chelsea, by cutting the ribbon to officially open the store. Fashion blogger and DJ Mademoiselle Robot also came along, and entertained with a set of funky electro tunes…

Our POP-UP SHOP is up and running, and last week we held our Official Launch Party with some of our celebrity fans, journalists, knomo friends & customers alike!

For the LAUNCH PARTY celebration, we were joined by Ortis Deley, the inimitable host of The Gadget Show, who kicked off proceedings alongside Hettie Moore from Made in Chelsea, by cutting the ribbon to officially open the store.

Ortis found a Christmas gift for his wife, a Florence Weekender Bag in Pink quilting, amongst the items for sale.

The maven of cool, and fashion blogger, Mademoiselle Robot also joined us for the event, spinning a DJ set of funky dance tunes to get everyone in the mood for the weekend!

And even though the pop-up shop may be small, it holds a few surprises, including our customer ‘What Do You Think?’ opinion board where we ask for feedback on forthcoming designs.  Model and ‘Made in Chelsea’ star Henrietta Moore, gave her feedback on our SS13 Galactic design…
